Early literacy plays a fundamental part in your child's education. At Tittensor we believe that the teaching of phonics and reading fluency needs to be at the start of your child's learning journey.  Therefore we place high importance on home/school reading, whether it is learning the key words or sharing a reading book, we recommend that parents take the time to reinforce this at home.

When supporting your child with letter formation we encourage children to form letters correctly and correct them when they don't.This stops habits forming that will subsequently hinder them when progressing to a cursive form of handwriting. In Class 1 we expect children to read with an adult at least three times a week. It is important that reading is reinforced at home as this promotes fluency and allows children then to become more confident readers.We are then able to teach the inference and deduction skills that take childrens' comprehension to a deeper level of understanding.
We celebrate reading at home by awarding a weekly 'Reading Champion' in school.

The Super Yummy Kitchen

Chartwells caterers have been working on a project – The Super Yummy Kitchen, which they hope you will join in with and enjoy. They have created cook along YouTube videos aimed at school children to help entertain by enabling them to create yummy, healthy snacks made from store cupboard ingredients. Nutritional messages will feature throughout the videos and there will be a curriculum activity and a health and wellbeing challenge set.
